Oops, You Left OnSong
OnSong is designed to take full advantage of the external video capabilities of iOS devices. The output can be changed to three different modes depending on your needs. The external video settings screen provides advanced options for customizing external video output.
Look. OnSong totally dominates the whole external video thing on iOS. You get three different modes—pick whatever floats your boat. The external video settings screen? Yeah, it's got all the nerdy knobs & switches for tweaking your external video output.
Don't Clutter the Menubar Like a Hoarder
The Menubar contains the External Video Menu which is displayed at all times by default. Toggle this option on to only have the icon appear in the menubar when an external video device is connected.
The Menubar has this External Video Menu thing that's always showin' its face by default. Flip this switch on if you want the icon to play hide-n-seek & only show up when you actually plug in a video device. You're welcome.
Sling Those Lyrics Across the Room
Lyrics projection lets you broadcast chord charts & lyrics onto a projector so everyone can sing along like they actually know the words. Congregational worship? Group sing-a-longs? We got you, bestie.
Virtual Music Stand Mode
Stage Monitor Mode turns your HDTV(s) into a pretend music stand so you don't have to squint at your iPad anymore. Configure all the fancy options right here to make your stage setup less of a dumpster fire.
Mirror Mirror on the Wall, We Don't Care At All
When this is turned on, OnSong acts like every other boring app & just mirrors your screen. Congrats. Great for makin' tutorial videos or trainin' people, we guess? This is off by default because OnSong is built to actually own the external display like it's supposed to. Revolutionary, we know.
You might need to restart OnSong for this to actually work. Fingers crossed!
Screen Spinny-Thing
Use this to spin the external screen however you want. This affects both Sling Those Lyrics Across the Room & Virtual Music Stand Mode outputs. Pick 0º, 90º, 180º, or 270º. Default is 0º (aka boring).
The Resolution Thing (aka Pixel Math)
When you plug in a video device, OnSong checks what resolutions it can handle & just picks the highest one like a boss. EXCEPT sometimes your monitor lies & says it supports 1920x1080 when it's really a 1280x1024 poser, so everything gets all stretched & weird. If that happens to you (& let's be honest, it probably will), you can manually pick a resolution. Might work, might not. We'll do our best with whatever's closest. No promises.
